Horizontal Directional Drilling

Directional drilling has seemed to be the most preferred method of pipeline construction as of late.  The reason being that directional drilling can be installed without any disturbance to natural habitats and surroundings. 

Directional Drilling has the least impact of any method of construction.  By directional drilling you can be at a depth below an obstacle, providing minimal maintenance and cost and up-keep, all while maximizing protection.  In some cases, directional drilling can cost less that most other construction methods and procedures.

Rock Boring

Rock boring is like typical boring. The difference is in the cutterhead attachment.  Standard boring cutter heads are not equipped to cut through rock greater than 3,000 psi, however Mid-Ohio uses rock cutter heads and mixed ground cutter heads.  Our crews have worked on several rock boring projects and are experienced to work on your project as well. We love great rock projects!

Underground Utility/Telecom Construction & Installation

Installing utilities is our specialty!  The use of directional boring in underground construction has proven to save our customers time and money, while preventing unnecessary disruption to vehicle and pedestrian traffic.  We can provide an affordable and proven solution to your project.

Hydro Vacuum Excavation

Hydrovac is a great option to completed prep work prior to horizontal directional drilling.  The high-pressure water and powerful vacuum system of a hydrovac is strong enough to clear soil and debris of all types.     

Traditional methods required manual shoveling for digging.  In addition, multiple crew members were required, and the process was very time-consuming.  Also, the use of heavy machinery could pose safety threats to the crew members and damage surroundings.  However, these issues have been eliminated by hydrovac excavation.  It is also an environmentally and a non-mechanical method to get the job done.

FAQs

  • Horizontal Directional Drilling or HDD is a trenchless technology that allows a customer to solve their underground utility job without an open trench cut. It is safer, faster, more cost effective and requires minimal disruption compared to other forms of underground utility installation. With our drills, we bore into the ground and navigate the rods using our drill head locators to create the hole where the pipe will lay. Once we reach the other end of the hook up, we pull the pipe back through the hole. We can either hook up the pipe or you can. This is entirely up to you.

  • Yes we are! We can do Electro, Sidewall, Butt and Socket fusing. Just let us know what your underground utility problem is and we can assist you in in solving it.

  • Yes we can. This is usually done quickly.

  • We mainly pull HDPE, PVC, Steel, and Ductile Iron but we can also pull many other types of pipe. Let us know the details of your job and we can work to solve your issue.
